Lingashtakam

Shiva Lingashtakam is a very powerful mantra consisting of eight verses. It is used to pray to Lord Shiva. The glory of Shivalinga has been described in all its verses.

॥ Lingashtakam ॥

Brahma Muraari Suraarchita Lingam Nirmala Bhaasita Shobhita Lingam ।
Janmaja Dukha Vinaashaka Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥1॥

Meaning – I bow to the Sadashiva Linga, which is worshiped by Brahma, Vishnu and all the gods and is adorned with pure radiance, and which is the destroyer of birth-born sorrow, that is, the giver of salvation ॥1॥

Deva Muni Pravaraarchita Lingam Kaama Daham Karunaakara Lingam ।
Raavana Darpa Vinaashana Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥2॥

Meaning – I bow to the Sadashiva Linga, which is worshiped by the best gods and sages, who is the destroyer of Cupid, is the mine of compassion and destroyer of the pride of Raavana ॥2॥

Sarva Sugandhi Sulepita Lingam Buddhi Vivardhana Kaarana Lingam ।
Siddha Suraasura Vandita Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥3॥

Meaning – I bow to the Sadashiva Linga, which is coated with all divine fragrances, which enhances the intellect and which is worshiped by all the Siddhas, Gods and Demons ॥3॥

Kanaka Mahaamani Bhushita Lingam Phanipati Veshtita Shobhita Lingam ।
Daksha Suyagya Vinaashana Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥4॥

Meaning – The linga form of Sadashiva is adorned with gold, ruby, etc. and wrapped by Naagaraaja and who is the destroyer of the Yagya of his father-in-law, Daksha, I bow to that Sadashiva Linga ॥4॥

Kunkuma Chandana Lepita Lingam Pankaja Haara Sushobhita Lingam ।
Sanchita Paapa Vinaashana Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥5॥

Meaning – The linga form of Sadashiva is adorned with kumkum, sandalwood etc., which is adorned with a garland of divine lotus and destroys the accumulated sins of many births, I bow to that Sadashiva linga ॥5॥

Deva Ganaarchita Sevita Lingam Bhaavair Bhakti Bhireva Cha Lingam ।
Dinakara Koti Prabhaakara Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥6॥

Meaning – Worshiped and served by all the gods with devotion, I bow to that Lord Sadashiva Linga which has the radiance of crores of suns ॥6॥

Ashta Dalopari Veshtita Lingam Sarva Samudbhava Kaarana Lingam ।
Ashta Daridra Vinaashita Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥7॥

Meaning – The Linga form of Sadashiva, adorned with the eight-petalled lotus, is the cause of the origin of the whole world and the destroyer of the Ashta Daridra, I bow to that Sadashiva linga ॥7॥

Suraguru Suravara Pujita Lingam Suravana Pushpa Sadaarchita Lingam ।
Paraatparam Paramaatmaka Lingam Tat Pranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam ॥8॥

Meaning – I bow to the Sadashiva Linga, which is worshiped by the guru of the gods Brihaspati and the king of gods Indra, which is constantly worshiped by the divine flowers of Nandanvan and which is the symbol of supreme god ॥8॥

Lingaashtaka Midam Punyam Yah Pathechchhiva Sannidhau ।
Shiva Lokama Vaapnoti Shivena Saha Modate ॥9॥

Meaning – One who recites this virtuous Lingashtak near Samba Sadashiva, surely resides in Shiva Loka ( Kailash ) and becomes very happy while living with Shiva ॥9॥
